Are you interested in having your student assessed for highly capable services for next year? Shoreline is offering testing for hi-cap eligibility this Spring for any student not previously screened or tested during the 2018-2019 school year. For more information or to register on-line, please visit www.shorelineschools.org/Domain/90, or contact the hi-cap program office at 206-393-4771.

Join us on Thursday from 6:00-8:00PM for our second annual Winter Ball. Feel free to jam out in your jeans or dust off a tux and ball gown! There will be a live DJ, karaoke, crafts, concessions and more. This is a FREE event; concession proceeds benefit our Kindergarten classrooms’ purchase of Purposeful Play Kits. So come dance, sing, and play the night away, or spend some time in our low-sensory chill room!

3rd and 4th grade families, it’s your turn to shine on the Cheetah Family Spotlight at the front of the school. Give your student’s teachers a family picture with your name and teacher’s name on the back, or place it in the PTSA President’s Box in the work room. You’ll be featured in February and March! Looking forward to seeing some smiling faces.

Our second Art Docent project of the year is underway (Printmaking!), with a short time frame to bring it to all students. If your teacher or class Docent asks for volunteers, consider saying yes for this fun project. Families will receive info next month with options to order products made with your student’s original art!

Future Events and Volunteer Opportunities

We are starting our search for PTSA board members for next year.  There are opportunities big and small for all types of voices and skill sets.  Please contact the nomination team – Callie at calliel_@hotmail.com or Whitney at  whitneyhardie@gmail.com or ask another PTSA board member how you can help!   We are excited to bring you onto the team next year!

Guest speaker event:  Monday, February 4, 2019 (6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Shorewood High School theater), the Shoreline Hi Cap Parent Association, in partnership with the Shoreline PTA Council, welcomes back Austina De Bonte of the Northwest Gifted Child Association for her presentation, “What Parents and Educators Need to Know About Smart Kids.” This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the social/emotional concerns that impact our students. Please reserve your seat in advance thru Eventbrite. A limited number of free “first come, first serve” childcare spots are available via RSVP. Please email shoreline.hicap.advocacy@gmail.com with your name, number of child(ren),  their names and ages, to reserve this service. Children must be potty-trained.

Our next skate night will be on Thursday, February 7th, from 6:00-8:00PM at Lynnwood Skate And Bowl (6210 200th St SW, Lynnwood, 425-778-3133). Admission is $7 per person; quad and in-line skate rentals are available for an additional $3.25. Click HERE for a map!

Multicultural Night is Friday, March 1st, from 6-8pm!  If you would like to play or teach at our Games from Around the World tables, please contact Julie Reinhardt: julie@shesmoke.com or (206) 331-8279.

The annual Shoreline Math Olympiad (SMO) event is approaching (March 9th).  This all-volunteer event helps students engage with math and encourages future participation with math activities. All MP 4-6th grade students are eligible to participate, including students that are NOT enrolled in math club.  If you know of a cheetah that would be interested in competing at the SMO have them register on 6crickets.  More information about this year’s event is on the SMO website.  Interested in volunteering? No math experience needed.  Just email Steve (SRuiter@comcast.net) or Lisa (lisa_mcd@comcast.net) for more info.
