ATTENTION ALL PARENTS OF 5TH AND 6TH GRADERS and other interested parents of current MP students! Our school, with the support of our PTSA, will be holding its first Internet Safety Event for both our 5th and 6th grade kids and their parents. It will focus on up-to-date issues regarding cyberbullying, social networking, and online posting and relationships. These two separate sessions will be held on JUNE 13, 2017 AT MERIDIAN PARK; the students’ session will be during the day and the parents’ session will be at 7 p.m.either the cafeteria or the gym.

PLEASE pass the word along to other MP parents about this great event and extend the invitation to other Shoreline School District parents. It will greatly improve our communities.

6th Grade Moving On Ceremony

The 6th Grade Moving On ceremony is coming soon! We need a few more 6th grade parents to help. Please take a look at this link and see how you can step in to help! http://www.signupgenius.com

Needed:

3 volunteers: 6th Grade Memory team -Work with Co-chairs to create physical item with students picture in it for parent to take as a token after the ceremony. item will be attached in some way to the back wall of the cafeteria.

5 volunteers: Evening Setup June 21, 5 – 8pm – Set up for the ceremony the day before

9 volunteers: Morning final setup, June 22, 8 – 9am – final hanging and set up for the ceremony

3 volunteers: 11am – 1:30pm: BBQ potluck – help with BBQ for kids and families

Meridian Park Arts Festival 2017 – Thursday, May 25, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

This is our annual celebration of the arts. It includes a vocal music concert, which this year will feature all 2nd and 4th graders (including Ms. Clark’s and Ms. Uran’s 1st graders and Ms. Sabo’s 3rd graders.) Please see the schedule below:

6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Poetry readings in the Cafeteria, Directed by Jenny Hillger

6:35 – 6:55 p.m. Vocal Concert Grade 2* in the Cafeteria, Directed by Shari Anderson

*Students in Ms. Jenks, Ms. Anderson’s, Ms. Clark and Ms. Uran’s classes will perform

7:00 – 7:20 p.m. Vocal Concert Grade 4*in the Cafeteria, Directed by Shari Anderson

*All students in grade 4 (and Grade 3-4 Ms. Sabo’s class) will perform

7:20 – 8:00 Visual Art Viewing around the building

*Performing students, dress up as much as you would like!

Please plan to attend this wonderful event with your family! Students in these classes are expected to attend. This is our grand championship arts “game” so to speak – the only one! Most coaches are great about working with their team and schedule so all kids can be at the concert, so please make schedule arrangements early! We all know that parents can move mountains in order to attend! You won’t want to miss it!

Hicap Parent Event

Shoreline Public Schools and the Shoreline HiCap Advocacy Group are co-sponsoring a community event on Tuesday, May 16, at the Shoreline Conference Center from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (Shoreline Room). Keynote speaker will be Dr. Nancy Hertzog, Director of the UW Robinson Center for Young Scholars. A renowned expert in gifted education, Dr. Hertzog will provide much insight to families and staff about the education of Highly Capable students. For additional info: http://www.shorelinehicap.org

Mariners Parent Night

The event takes place Saturday, June 3rd. Ticket order deadline is Friday, May 19th. Order forms are available in the office and in the lobby.

“The Essentials” Spring Drive

Each Spring, Shoreline schools collect items to be distributed to Shoreline families in need at the Back To School Consortium in August. Items include new underwear, socks, toothbrushes, shampoo. Meridian Park’s goal is to donate 500 items. Please consider donating an item and dropping them in the MP lobby in the box marked “The Works” before May 31st.

Shoreline STEM Festival & Science Fair

The Shoreline STEM Festival & Science Fair will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017at Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Avenue North, Shoreline, WA, 98133-5696.

Schedule of Events

10:00am – 12:00 Judging and viewing of science fair projects

12:00 – 2:00pm Participation and viewing of hands-on science exhibits and robotics

2:00pm – 2:15pm Science Fair award ceremony

You won’t want to miss the Shoreline STEM Festival on May 20, 2017 at Shoreline Community College. Come to experience the student science fair, hands-on STEM fun, robotics demonstrations, and science trivia! This year will be bigger than ever, with Pacific Science Center, UW Neuroscience, UW Chemical Sciences, Insect Safari, Center for Game Science, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and more – all ready to share their passion for knowledge and inquiry!

The festival is brought to our community with the generous support of Shoreline Community College, BECU, Hoag and Dotsch Dentistry, Prosetta Biosciences, BioLife Solutions, kdh Consultants, Greenstone Architecture PLLC, QFC, Team Pronto, Maker Lab NW, Ray Koelling, and the Shoreline School District. Entrance to the festival and parking is FREE!
