Guest speaker event:
Austina De Bonte of the Northwest Gifted Child Association
Thursday, October 5, 2017
6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Shoreline Auditorium (18560-1st Ave. NE – Shoreline Conference Center)
The Shoreline Hi Cap Advocacy Group, in partnership with the Shoreline PTA Council, is excited to welcome back Austina De Bonte, president of the Northwest Gifted Child Association (NWGCA), to Shoreline for her presentation, “What Parents and Educators Need to Know About Smart Kids.” This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the social/emotional concerns that impact our advanced learners: what’s normal, what to expect as they grow, and why genuine challenge is vitally important to their learning, as well as the development of their academic talents — from the preschool and elementary years all the way to high school and beyond. This event is open to all Shoreline families!
We will have a brief business meeting at 6:30 p.m., followed by Ms. De Bonte’s presentation at 7 p.m.
A limited number of free childcare spots will be available on RSVP – “first come, first serve” basis – by the Dale Turner YMCA. Please email us at shoreline.hicap.advocacy@gmail.com  with your name, the number of child(ren), and their names and ages, to reserve this service. Children must be potty-trained.
This is a free speaker event for parents and for anyone who supports our students. Don’t miss this!

Yearbook Photos Needed
Photos needed for the 2017-2018 Yearbook. If you take a photo at a Meridian Park event, field trip, or in the classroom, email it to mpptsayearbook! “Tag” the photo with the grade of the kids in the photo or the name of the event. We will be collecting photos until mid April. If you are interested in helping out more with the Yearbook you can contact Molly at the yearbook email.

Office & Admin Update
Congratulations Kindergarten on recent conferences and a successful first week of classes; and all Cheetahs for the best start ever. We had a fun first assembly last week and this month all Cheetahs are practicing ‘respect.’ As a family, please talk about respect. This week we are holding our first safety drill on Tuesday at 3 pm. As a school, we will practice for a safety situation in the neighborhood (off campus), called Lockout, and also do a Fire Drill. Teachers will hold class meetings in advance to prepare students. Please talk with your student(s) and emphasize that school is a safe place. We hope to see you at PTA on Tuesday night, and thanks for our partnership. See you soon. David Tadlock and Lara Drew, Admin
