Reflections Art Program

Congratulations to all Meridian Park artists that participated in the Reflections Arts Recognition Program this year, with the theme of “I Belong!”

We had by far the most participation of any school in the district, and took home a lot of the top awards! Good luck to those of you moving on to state! We’ll learn results from the state level in early March.

Be on the lookout for calls for entry next school year in the fall, when the theme will be “What My Culture Means to Me”!

for Shoreline K-12 Schools!!

Reflections® is a theme focused National PTA and Washington State PTA arts recognition program.  The Reflections program celebrates K-12 student creativity and encourages school age youth to express themselves through the arts.  Student art is judged first at the school level (Meridian Park). Finalists from the school level will move on to the district level (Shoreline) and then the state and national levels for judging.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Check back in the fall for more details!

All Meridian Park students are encouraged to participate in the Reflections Art Program! (Previous art experience not required | Accessible Arts Division for students who identify as having a disability).

Step 1:
Reflect on the theme “I Belong!”
This step is important!
  • Where do you feel a sense of belonging? Are there groups of people or certain activities where you feel like you really “belong”? How does it feel to “belong”?
Step 2:
Select and art category in which to express your reflection on the theme
See below for a list of art categories and their descriptions.
Step 3:
Create a work of original art
Student artists should be mindful of how their work reflects the theme, as well as the artistic technique (skill in process, use of materials, etc.) and presentation (attention to details).  Do not put names in front of art or writing. It is recommended that students (parents) review the full  Student Entry Rules (EN ESPAÑOL) prior to starting their art – be sure to scroll down the page to find the guidelines.
Step 4:
Complete the REFLECTIONS ENTRY FORM / EN ESPAÑOL to submit your art and artist statement
The artist statement should thoughtfully communicate the content and inspiration of the work and how it relates to the theme.
PLEASE NOTE: The statement will be considered part of the art during the judging process

The deadline for 2025 submissions is now updated to Sunday, December 7th at 8pm. Submissions before this date are welcome and appreciated!

The categories for entry are:

  • Music:  musical composition, with or without words
  • Writing:  fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories, lyrics
  • Photography: color or black and white photography (various photographic techniques accepted)
  • Visual Arts: 2D – drawing, painting, computer generated art, collage, printmaking, or 3D – sculptural works (clay, wood, glass, leather, fabric, etc.)
  • Film/ Video Production: animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video (with or without audio)
  • Dance: choreographed dance composition

Students may submit/enter in as many different arts categories as they would like, however only one entry per category is allowed.  A separate entry form is required for each submission.  Only new, original works of art, inspired by the current year’s theme, may be submitted. For more detailed descriptions and guidelines for each category, go HERE, scroll down the page, and click the arrow next to Student Entry Rules.
