We are celebrating the cultural diversity of our school community this year!
Last week we had our students listen to and learn about Native American storytelling and music from Sondra Segundo, a member of the Haida Nation in Alaska. Then on Friday they gathered to watch Seattle Opera perform a multicultural opera piece, Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers. It was a fun multicultural experience for our students!
Next week, on April 16 (Tuesday) from 5-7pm we will have a multicultural potluck for a truly international community meal.

We invite families to bring a dish they love to eat which represent their family heritage to share with our Meridian community. We are happy to know more about your families’ rich cultural heritage!
We appreciate an advance sign-up for food, but it is not required.
We will have a presentation from Japan-America Society of WA about a day in the school life of a Japanese 3rd grader, learn some Japanese words and text, as well as practice using chopsticks!
Our Eritrean and Ethiopian families are also sharing a centuries-old tradition, the coffee ceremony.
We also invite families to set up a table display of their cultural heritage! Display flags, clothing and other items that are culturally distinctive. Sign-up for a table display here.
See you all on April 16!
